Garages, attics and sheds in Bay Area houses
Houses here have their own quirks and we know them. The garage is a two-car that fits zero cars, shelving down one wall, bikes in the rafters, a path down the middle just wide enough to reach the dryer. The attic is up a pull-down ladder with about four feet of headroom, and past the little plywood platform by the hatch there is no floor, just joists and insulation.
Then the side yard, which in a lot of San Jose and Santa Clara County houses is three feet wide between fence and wall. Boxes, bikes, a dead planter or two, a barrel leaning on the fence. We have cleared plenty of those. It is a slow shuffle and it takes two people, but you get that side of the house back. One customer said afterwards that the side of their house felt brand new again.
The garage nobody parks in
Shelves emptied, rafters cleared, and the pile against the back wall finally gone. Then the concrete gets swept. Seeing the whole floor at once is a strange feeling after a decade, and it is why people book this in the first place.
The attic and the pull-down ladder
Low headroom and joists instead of a floor means everything comes down by hand, one piece at a time. It is slow and careful work, and it is the part you should not be doing alone at the top of a ladder. Mention the attic when you send photos.
The shed and the narrow side yard
Sheds get emptied and swept out. Tight side yards are a normal request, not a special one. Access does not become a problem on the day as long as we can see it in the photos beforehand.
What actually comes out
The list is consistent. Old exercise equipment leads it, treadmills, weight benches, the stationary bike with the towel on it. Heavy shop tools next, a table saw or bench grinder that weighs more than it looks. Broken patio furniture, umbrellas with snapped ribs, chairs gone brittle in the sun. Dead planters, empty pots, bags of hardened soil. Outgrown bikes, luggage, boxes of old paperwork. We have taken a garage packed wall to wall back down to open concrete, carried an oversized sectional out of a living room, and pulled barrels and dead planters off a fence line.
Heavy items are the easy part
Exercise equipment, shop tools, filing cabinets, old appliances. Large things you genuinely cannot move by yourself are not a complication, they are the normal job. This is the exact reason most people call in the first place.
Ask about anything unusual
If something in there has you unsure, send a photo of it with the rest. Andy will tell you straight whether it goes on the truck or needs handling another way. Better to sort that out from your kitchen table than in the driveway.

Do I have to move everything out to the driveway first?
No. The crew does all the lifting, loading and sweep up, so leave it exactly where it sits. That includes the shelves, the rafters, the back of the attic and the far end of the shed. A lot of people assume they have to pre-stage it at the curb, and that is not how this works.
What if I want to keep some of it?
Expected, and it is built into how we work. Put your keep pile anywhere you like and it does not get touched. Nothing goes on the truck unless you point at it, and if you change your mind mid-load, say so and it comes back off.
Can you get things out of an attic with a pull-down ladder?
